The twentieth edition of the BioJapan international biotechnology conference was held in Yokohama, Japan, from 10 to 12 October 2018. The event was attended by more than 1,100 organisations from 34 countries. CzechInvest took part in the conference for the third time. The Czech stand received support from the economic diplomacy project (PROPED) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and its implementation was ensured by CzechInvest in cooperation with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Japan. Six Czech companies and science and research institutions exhibited at the stand – Apigenex, Biocev, Elmarco, Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, IOCB Tech and the Technology Transfer Centre of the University of Pardubice. The stand was visited by Osamu Nagayam, president of the Japan Bioindustry Association and COO of Chugai Pharmaceutical, who was accompanied by Minister of Education Robert Plaga and Tomáš Dub, ambassador of the Czech Republic in Japan.
BioJapan is the biggest event of its kind on the Japanese market. The conference has been creating favourable conditions for international research collaboration for the past two decades. In addition to the possibility of exhibiting, attendees also have access to an online partnering system that enables them to schedule individual meetings prior to the start of the conference. The event is thus an ideal opportunity to present the possibility of research collaboration in areas of the pharmaceutical industry in the Czech Republic.
